About Shawnigan Christian Preschool
Shawnigan Christian Preschool has recently changed to an Early Learning Group Care program. We will continue to provide the same quality Preschool program as before. The Early Learning Program is located on the lower level of Shawnigan Alliance Church and provides service to the South Cowichan Community.
Our government-certified preschool staff provide a fun and educational experience for ages 2.5 through 5 years old and the program runs from September to June. Our Early Learning Program is participating in the Reduced Fee Initiative from the Provincial Government and also accepts Affordable Child Care Benefit as payment towards their fees. It operates as a Not For Profit program and strives to keep it's fees low to make the Preschool accessible for as many as possible.
Our Purpose is to prepare children for school with a curriculum based on foundational Christian ideals and ethics. Your child will be challenged in all areas of development:
- spiritual
- social
- physical
- intellectual
- creative
- emotional
Payment & Fees
The Preschool is open Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 2:00pm.
These fees apply to any combination of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
1 day = $90
2 days = $140
3 days = $170
4 days = $185
5 days = $200
There is an annual fee of $25. Until the $25 registration fee is received, the registration form will not be processed.
Payments can be made by e-transfer, debit, cash or cheque.
Preschool Calendar
The Preschool runs in accordance with the public school calendar and holidays.

Meet our Preschool Staff
Su Owen
MANAGER & LEAD TEACHER
Ms. Su is a mom of three grown children, has 2 grandchildren and has many years experience of working in the childcare profession both in the United Kingdom and here. Children who need a little extra help have always held a special place in her heart, and she enjoys sharing her love of music and singing with all the children. She has her ECE certificate with honours, and has worked at Shawnigan Alliance Preschool for 20 years.

Chelsea Turner
TEACHER
Ms. Chelsea is a mom of two children and a dog. She has been working with children, parents and adults in the dental profession for the past 14 years, and decided to change career paths to become a preschool teacher and work with children. She enjoys spending time crafting with her own children, singing and dancing around the house and playing outdoors with them. In her spare time she loves gardening, camping and going for hikes. She went back to school and got her ECE certificate with honours in 2024.
Kristin Johnston
TEACHER
We are happy to have Ms. Kristin on our team again this year. It is her third year with us. Kristin has lived it the area for over 30 years, (some of you will be familiar with her, from her involvement in many community activities). She has her Responsible Adult qualifications and additional training in helping children with extra needs. Kristin is also a mom to two wonderful children who just happened to have attended this preschool when they were younger! She loves spending time with her family and friends and enjoys camping and being at the ocean.
Morwenna Owen
SUPPORT TEACHER
Morwenna (Ms. Mo.) has worked with us as a substitute teacher over the last few years. We are delighted to welcome her onto the team as the other part of the jobshare with Candice. Morwenna is excited to return to the preschool she once attended, and for the special opportunity to work alongside her mum (Ms. Su)! Morwenna has her ECE Assistant certificate and over 3 years of experience working with children and youth. Outside of laughing and learning with little ones, Morwenna loves road tripping and spending time with her family.
