Steve Vaughan
LEAD PASTOR
Steve is our Lead Pastor and has been a member of Shawnigan Alliance Church since 1992. Steve joined the pastoral team part-time in 2000 as Associate Pastor and assumed the Lead Pastor roll in 2004. Steve’s passion is to see each member of Shawnigan Alliance Church grow their relationship with Jesus through the daily practices of reading and meditating on God’s word, prayer and listening in prayer, and inviting the Holy Spirit’s activity in our lives. Steve desires to lead our church in community minded service and has a heart to welcome all who come seeking God’s work in their lives. Steve loves to spend time with his wife Peggy, their children and grandchildren and especially loves his time at Sproat Lake. He also enjoys a really good cup of Sumatran coffee!

Trevor Dunham
ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Trevor has been with Shawnigan Alliance Church as the Associate Pastor since 2014. He has over 2 decades of experience in working in the local church as well as with teens and children. As of 2025 Trevor is stepping out of his roll in midweek children and youth programming to work on connections within the church. New attendees as well as established members connecting to the church and deeper relationship with God is a new focus for his work.
His great passions for the church are that it's members, young and old follow the ancient pathways God has set out for them to draw closer to Him themselves and to help others do the same. When he is not working at the church, Trevor enjoys family time with his wife Carissa and kids Rebecca, Caitlin and Jacob. Trevor loves the outdoors as well as a good adventure movie and is perhaps a little too fond of a chilled Coke Zero.

Julie Willing
CHILDREN'S MINISTRY DIRECTOR
Julie has been part of Shawnigan Alliance Church since 2018 and has served as the Director of Kids Church Ministry since 2023. She works with children and families, aiming to create a safe and welcoming environment. Outside of her role at the church, she is employed as a nurse in Duncan. Julie and her husband Mike have three sons: Walker, Levi, and Finn. As a family, they engage in activities such as playing soccer, making music, and outdoor adventures.

Candace Shortreid
WORSHIP DIRECTOR
Candace has attended Shawnigan Alliance since 1992 and transitioned into a staff role in 2023. Candace grew up through the children and youth ministries at SAC and now has the joy of watching her 3 boys do the same. Candace, along with her husband Matt have overseen the worship ministry for several years and have a deep desire to see worship in the church grow. Shawnigan Alliance is a community growing in depth of relationship with Jesus and as we grow deeper, our worship flows more freely!
Outside of her role at the church, Candace runs a homebased business and loves to spend time with Matt, Caleb, Aaron and Nate. She can be found cheering on the sidelines of many a soccer game, hiking up a mountain or puttering around at home.
Mike Willing
DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRIES
Mike has attended Shawnigan Alliance with his family since 2019 and transitioned to a staff role in 2025. Mike accepted Christ as a teen and with the gifts of music that the Lord has provided began to become heavily involved in worship ministry during his youth. Mike still exercises these gifts here at Shawnigan Alliance and is one of four worship leaders. Mike and his wife Julie have three young boys who love attending church and the church community events as a family. Mike has a calling on his heart to draw the SAC youth closer to the heart of God to deeper relationship that involves prayer, listening prayer, confession and the development of spiritual gifts. Mike also believes in creating an environment for the SAC youth to find and develop their own spiritual gifts that will help them be a part of the building of the Kingdom of Christ in our community.
On Mike's days off he writes and records worship music and enjoys going rock and fossil hunting with his family.

Katey Atkins
OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR
Katey grew up coming to Shawnigan Alliance Church as a teenager and found her way back in 2023. She comes from a medical background but was called into her role as Office Administrator in 2026. Katey and her husband Gary have two daughters: Olive and Posey, who love to attend Sunday School.
On her days off you will find her reading, cross stitching and taking her daughters to dance practice. She loves the ocean and spending time with her animals.
